Thank you for sharing this, Josh. In working with a lot of individuals who have ADD, ADHD, dyslexia and autism, I have learned how beautifully gifted many of these people are and yet many have been led to believe they are "bad" because they failed to meet some educator's expectations.
As a girl, my dyslexia earned me the label of "lazy" and it stung every time a teacher accused me of not trying hard enough. In college, when I learned the name for my challenges, I finally felt free to explore what methods of learning actually worked for me and how to use my strengths.
We need to teach educators how to recognize and work with children who learn differently -- not to criticize and belittle them.
