I No Longer Fit into This Version of America
Anyone else feel me here?
At times, I don’t feel as if I belong in this country, especially in this era and under this administration. It seems my values place me at odds with this version of America. Let me explain why:
On Religion:
I don’t want to live in a nation enforcing a state-sanctioned religion that invades and permeates our public schools. I respect other’s rights to have alternative faiths or none at all. If parents want their children to have a religion-based education, then they can send them to a private school. It’s that simple.
Americans have every right to include the Bible as a part of their households, just as I believe others have a right to not be force-fed and made to follow another’s religion. Personally, I stopped going to church many years ago and find my spirituality out in nature — and am happier for it. To each their own path.
Gay and Trans Community:
I love and respect gay and trans individuals and do not wish to change them one bit. I know people who belong to both groups, and I value them in all their beauty. If you can’t see their virtues, then maybe you are the one who needs to grow as a human being. It’s probably your character limitations, not theirs, that is at issue here.
